Speaking in parenthetical phrases

a chain of random links
I seem to be in a rut of posting American Idol recaps, inane blather, and random linkage. My apologies to regular blog readers. However, there's MORE! Here are some very dis/unconnected things I keep meaning to post about.

Since I never wrote a recap of our trip to Germany and I have random bouts of ADD (look, something shiny!), here's the time lapse of the setup and conference. Kind of fun to watch it all at once like this ...

Do you know musician Jeff Healey? He died Sunday night. He had the same cancer as my oldest nephew. I'm not sad about it (my nephew; not Mr. Healey. May he rest in peace) because frankly, my nephew is doing really really well. And he's also in the Spring of his second year at Columbia University, which makes me both really proud and really old.

wandererjen recently posted this fascinating article about children and lying in her blog. I can't stop thinking about it. If you have kids you should read it. Even if you don't have kids, you might want to read it.

This is the newest addition to my Happy List. A couple weeks ago, the girls' group at our church went to the paint-your-own-pottery store, and I painted this mug. I didn't have a clue how it would turn out post-baking, but I love it, and have already had multiple raspberry lattés in it :)

Anyone want to go back with me? I need a set of 4, which I'll be doing in the same colors but different designs (need something more manly for Unk, for one thing). I'm also considering doing a similar thing with different size mugs so I can offer people any size drink they want! This might be an addiction. We had a seriously fabulous time.

And this is just a free giggle, on the house. Look who is peeking over my shoulder as I was taking these pictures yesterday! Unk came around behind me and made me belly laugh when I saw the pic.

Oh, and I have no idea why the pantry door is open in those shots. I might have gotten distracted by something shiny.

From what Jeff Healey told me last year, they have come very far with the treatment of that type of cancer. His now 3 year-old son has it too, and is getting very different and advanced treatment. Blessings to your nephew.

You knew him? Very cool. Yay for different and advanced treatment. And blessings on his son and family.

RIP, Mr. Healey.

and Unk over your shoulder? Priceless! If you had tried to get that shot, it never would have worked...

The mug rocks! Can't wait to see your future creations.

And your nephew sounds like a remarkable young man...and your pride is showing.

Isn't that totally fun? He said if he knew how to time it based on when the picture "took", etc., he'd have scared me :)

I'm really happy with my mug AND my nephew. I know, it's hard to tell :)

(my icon is same nephew at about age 2, I think, with my dad)

you should come here and we could do it with your sis and Jen!

I'm totally hooked. My sis has been several times and it always sounded fun, but I'd never been before. Now I want to go every day!

I was thinking stripes too! I'm glad you like the idea :)

Healey's "Angel Eyes" was a favorite of mine.

It's sad, right?

RIP, Mr. Healey

He IS a great kid. And it's totally fine to call him a "kid" -- in my head he is still the kid in my icon with my dad :)

You're so right -- I'm thinking chili bowls!

Heehee, you didn't have to point him out to me. I saw him right away. Love that picture! :D

I also love your mug. Very cool.

Isn't that picture fab? it totally makes me giggle every time I look at it :)

You feeling any better? I'd bring you a mug-like-this of chicken noodle soup if we were neighbors.

I'm feeling a little better today. To make the cold worse, my back is aching from lying down so much. :(

Thanks for the soup offer. I wish we were neighbours.

What is it about gigantic mugs that make me want to be a caffeine addict for life?? GREAT mug! <---- talking about yours and Unks

Loved the YouTube video but there's no mention of conference name or sponsor - who was it? One church or an organization? Inquiring minds want to know! The music rocked! Was it a great time?

I was saddened by the news of Jeff Healy - that man practically glowed with goodheartedness and soul.

Didn't know that about your nephew but he's doing it up at Columbia and that's really something. Will send prayers up for him that life is long and strong and successful. God, this next generation makes me so hopeful sometimes!

You make me feel hugged all over, my friend :)

LOL at the mug puns, and yeah, gigantic mugs are where it's AT!

oh -- the conference was a Leadership Conference (Leitungskongress). Our old church in Chicago started an association to help "resource" (as a verb) the church at large. The German arm of the association puts on these conferences, with some help from friends in the U.S. The group that puts on the conferences is called Willow Creek Deutschland.

RIP, Mr. Healey.

Yes, I'm often hopeful about people like my nephew. He's brilliant :)

I love that shot of Unk. I had to go to the large size picture to make sure that was your earring and not Unk picking his nose. *grin*

We have one of those places here...I haven't been in ages though.

hey, no worries as I've been in a rut since 1991 ;)

I love your writings anyway, sorry for not always commenting!
